Veterans at United Rentals

A significant portion of the United Rentals workforce comes from a military background. The company offers many roles that are a strong fit for the skills which veterans have gained through their service. To support career development, United Rentals provides a range of tools and programs.

The United Rentals Careers website includes a Military Skills Translator that helps service members and veterans find jobs at the company that fit their backgrounds. The tool allows them to input their military occupation code (MOC) and receive an instant list of open positions that match their various skills and attributes.

United Rentals has a work-study program that helps veterans transition into civilian work. The company partnered with Workforce Opportunity Services to develop the Service to Employment Program (STEP). The program offers ten weeks of in-class and hands-on training, where veterans learn technical and other skills, meet with company leaders and experience what it is like to work at a United Rentals@ branch.

For company personnel still actively serving, United Rentals provides them and their spouses with flexibility needed to serve in the National Guard or Reserves. United Rentals safeguards the jobs of employees that serve in the uniformed services and provide pay during active duty deployments. It supports reserve training commitments. The company provides job protection for both service members and eligible family members during an active leave or medical leave.

Veterans United is a military employee resource group at United Rentals that supports and promotes the company’s veterans. All current employees, regardless of military service, are welcome to be part of this community of volunteers. In every location across United Rentals, employees can give back to organizations that support the armed forces in the U.S. and Canada such as Fisher House or Valour Place.
