Star Cypress Partners is celebrating the start of its fourth year working with the U.S. Air Force International Health Specialist Program. Star Cypress Partners provides strategic communication support to the program. The program develops specialists at tactical, operational, and strategic levels to conduct global health engagement programs and activities. This includes medical security cooperation, humanitarian assistance/disaster relief, and multinational military exercises. The professionalization of global health engagement specialist roles drives more strategic, innovative, and sustainable global health engagement.
“My mission is to tell the success stories of these dynamic and dedicated professionals,” said Kelley Schlitt, the senior associate who leads the engagement. “Strategic communication for this program is important because it helps to ensure that leaders and policymakers understand why this work matters and how to employ it effectively.”

This program plays a valuable role in supporting National Defense Strategy and National Security Strategy by enhancing force readiness and enabling the United States to better rely on and support its allies and partners in crisis and contingency operations. Global health engagement can create space for cooperation with potential partners and enhance interoperability with longstanding allies.
“We are proud to support the International Health Specialist Program’s global impact especially because the mission is central to developing the Air Force’s talent in defense health,” program manager, Margaret Graves said. The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of global health engagement — infectious disease does not respect political borders, and international cooperation is essential to successfully respond to global health security threats. Because of Star Cypress Partners’ work, the contributions of International Health Specialists in combating the pandemic have been captured, recorded, and communicated.
