Wise Announces North American Expansion Plan

Company to hire more than 150 U.S.-based Wisers in 2022; expand to Austin, Texas; and move its NYC headquarters to a new, larger office location

Wise, the global technology company building the best way to move money around the world, announced a 2022 North American expansion plan that will see the company hire more than 150 people; expand its U.S.-based operations to Austin, Texas; and, move its New York City headquarters office to a new, larger location.

“North America is a critical region for us as we continue to see demand and interest from people and businesses looking to move money instantly, conveniently, transparently and without hidden fees,“ said Harsh Sinha, Chief Technology Officer, Wise. ”

Wise, which became the largest tech listing in London Stock Exchange history when it went public earlier this year, will hire more than 150 people across its three U.S.-based locations – Austin, New York City and Tampa – in 2022.

Wise’s regional expansion plan – which is driven by customer growth – comes as the company announced earlier today that its North America revenue grew 29% to £54.2 million ($73.0 million) in the half-year ended September 30, 2021 when compared to the same period last year. The company also announced it now has 3,000 people and expects to hire an additional 1,000 Wisers globally in the year ahead.

Wise launched a number of important alliances supporting US-based consumers, gig-workers and small businesses in 2021, including collaborations with GooglePay, Andrews Federal Credit Union, The Orchard and Payfare, among others, and earlier today the company launched the Wise card in Canada.

“North America is a critical region for us as we continue to see demand and interest from people and businesses looking to move money instantly, conveniently, transparently and without hidden fees,“ said Harsh Sinha, Chief Technology Officer, Wise. ”Our expansion plan demonstrates our commitment to addressing those needs, and represents a significant step forward in our regional growth strategy.”

Austin Expansion

To scale in line with North American customer demand, Wise has started the process of building out a new full-stack operation in Austin, Texas, which will include product management, software engineering, operations, sales, and customer support teams.

Wise is currently recruiting for several of its Austin-based positions and will begin operations from a shared co-working space in downtown beginning in January 2022.

“Based on past experience we know the positive impact having a full-stack, cross-functional team in one location can have on our ability to move swiftly on behalf of our customers,” said Sinha. “Austin is the ideal location for us as it’s an innovation hub that’s home to a diverse collection of talented people. We look forward to growing our team there and becoming an active and contributing member of the Austin community.”

“Wise is a welcome addition to our growing Fintech community capitalizing on our diverse talent base,” Charisse Bodisch, Austin Chamber senior vice president, economic development said. “The Austin region is a magnet for international companies and Wise’s technology is paving the way with new options for companies and individuals.”

New York City Expansion & Relocation

With plans to grow its NYC-based headcount in 2022, Wise will relocate its New York City headquarters office to a new, larger 8,000-foot space located at 30 W 26th Street beginning January 3, 2022. The company will be hiring across a number of roles in NYC, including product, engineers and business development positions.

The new NoMad neighborhood office has been designed to provide an open, communal and collaborative hub for Wise’s NYC-based employees, as well as for colleagues visiting from one of the company’s 17 other offices around the world.

With a gradual return to the office after 18 months of working from home, the new office’s open-space design encourages flexibility, helping employees to reconnect in-person, while supporting their interactions with colleagues, customers and partners working remotely, or in other offices.

Tampa Recruiting

Wise’s Tampa location, which houses the company’s Customer Support teams, as well as its Verification, Payment Operations, Human Resources and Information Technology functions, among others, is projected to add Tampa-based Wisers in 2022 as the company expects hiring growth in the year ahead.
