According to Asana’s Anatomy of Work Index, the average knowledge worker spends 60 percent of their day on “work about work”, including searching for information, communicating project updates and chasing down deliverables. Furthermore, the report found that over 10 percent of an employee’s day – over 200 hours per year – is spent on tasks that have already been completed.

“When we rely on antiquated tools like email and spreadsheets that were never designed for collaborative work, we increase ‘work about work’ – duplicating existing, frequently changing information, calling unnecessary status meetings, and compiling time-consuming status reports that go unread at 4pm on a Friday afternoon,” said Paige Costello, a product leader at Asana. “Now that employees can no longer rely on traditional methods of communication like in-person meetings or desk drive-bys, teams are depending on new ways to align asynchronously. Asana Dashboards give team leads the tools they need to understand and communicate a project’s status at any point in a matter of minutes – eliminating manual reporting and freeing up time for strategic work.”
