HR Tech Group Appoints Three New Directors

HR Tech Group announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors including Laurie Murdoch, Vice President, People and Organization at Sony Pictures Entertainment (Imageworks), Raj Chahal, Director, Human Resources at Sophos Canada and Tammy Carlin, Director, Talent Operations at DHX Media dba WildBrain.

“We are thrilled to welcome Laurie, Raj and Tammy to our board,” said Elizabeth Barnard, Chair of the Board for HR Tech Group. “This was a strategic decision by our board to diversify and strengthen the tech sector representation and lived experiences at our board table. All three of these directors are existing members of HR Tech Group and we look forward to tapping into their collective expertise as we advance initiatives benefiting BC’s tech sector.”

As a long-time volunteer with HR Tech Group and an executive leader in the VFX and Animation industry, Laurie Murdoch brings a deep understanding of both our association’s programs and the VFX/Animation sector. Laurie joined Sony Pictures Entertainment in 2015 as the Vice President of People and Organization. Previously she was the Director of Human Resources and Recruiting at Digital Domain and was instrumental in the opening of the Moving Picture Company in Vancouver in 2005. Laurie has a CPHR designation, a Human Resource Management Certificate and is a Registered Immigration Consultant. Laurie recently completed the Diversity and Inclusion Award of Achievement Program at the University of British Columbia.

With 20 years of experience in HR roles spanning public and private sectors in various industries, Raj Chahal brings a global tech perspective and strong knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion practices to HR Tech Group’s board of directors. At Sophos Canada, a global leader in software security, Raj works as a Human Resources Director, partnering with global senior management to implement and facilitate strategic HR programs across the organization. Raj holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Management Certificate in Human Resources and has been an active member of the association for the past 15 years.

In Tammy Carlin’s position as Director Talent Operations at WildBrain, a global entertainment organization ‘Inspiring Imaginations to Run Wild in Animation’, she creates technical talent processes and practices to support workforce management and employee experience. Prior to her position at WildBrain, Tammy was the Director of Human Resources and Communications at Vancouver Native Housing Society and has also held roles supporting technology in the energy sectors within both British Columbia and Alberta. A BC Native (Interior Salish), Tammy has deep roots in BC’s indigenous community having mentored students, women and those returning to the workforce, partnering with non-profit, social enterprise, government and private organizations that support non-barriered equal opportunities.
