Modern Health Announces Support for “Whole Human Health” With the Launch of Physical Well-Being Pathways
The inaugural launch of its Physical Well-Being Pathways Collection marks the commencement of a detailed product roadmap dedicated to addressing the crucial intersection of physical and mental health.
Modern Health, a global workplace mental health platform, announces its latest Pathways Collection focused on Physical Well-Being. In a groundbreaking move for the company, Modern Health is building a future as the only platform to support mental and physical health across all modalities of care. This inaugural launch of its Physical Well-Being Pathways Collection marks the commencement of a detailed product roadmap dedicated to addressing the crucial intersection of physical and mental health. Modern Health’s vision refuses to compartmentalize mental and physical health, instead creating a path toward lasting wellness and longevity.
“Mental health is physical health. Science has unequivocally proven the connection between our psychological well-being and our physical bodies,” comments Dr. Neha Chaudhary, double board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist and Chief Medical Officer at Modern Health. “Too often, there’s a false dichotomy created between the two, but to us, that’s an outdated approach. We firmly believe that you cannot pursue one over the other or compartmentalize the many facets of our existence. This is why, at Modern Health, we simply focus on human health. It’s this holistic approach that helps drive the best outcomes—and that’s what we are here to do.”
Modern Health’s Clinical Research and Strategy team has already demonstrated that the platform positively impacts health behaviors key to the intersection of physical and mental health, presenting research at the annual meeting of the Southwest Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine. The study found that after just three months of using the Modern Health platform, members who were previously not meeting recommended activity levels improved their mental health outcomes and demonstrated a remarkable increase in physical activity levels, averaging an additional 60 minutes per week. The research uncovered compelling evidence of a bidirectional relationship between physical activity and well-being, anxiety, and depression. It also concludes that when employees engage with Modern Health, mental health is perceived to be less of a barrier to activity over time. This notable correlation underscores the profound impact of addressing mental well-being on overall physical health.

“Our research significantly adds to the growing body of evidence showcasing the indisputable correlation between mental health and physical activity,” comments Dr. Jessica Watrous, licensed psychologist and Director of Clinical Research and Strategic Affairs at Modern Health. “Through our comprehensive and integrated approach to mental health, we are already improving individuals’ quality of life and paving the way for long-term wellness and longevity. This study underscores the transformative power of our platform on whole human health. The introduction of Physical Well-being Pathways will only further strengthen the positive impact Modern Health is already making.”
Each Pathway has been developed by Modern Health’s industry-leading team of clinicians and research scientists and is tailored to specific topics, including meeting your fitness goals, getting better sleep, creating healthy routines, supporting your well-being with self-care, and relieving mind-body stress. Each Pathway is designed to drive targeted improvement and growth in a matter of weeks. Every Pathway features:
- An evidence-based structure: Every Pathway includes specialized modules inspired by proven therapeutic techniques, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and more.
- A dedicated Pathways Specialist: Every enrolled member will be matched to a dedicated Pathway Specialist, a Modern Health provider with advanced certification, training, or expertise in that specific topic. Pathway Specialists will guide members through the Pathway program, providing regular 1:1 sessions and support in conjunction with self-guided exercises.
- Targeted impact measurement: Every Pathway will feature specialized assessments unique to each topic to measure outcomes and demonstrate real impact.
- Powerful organizational insights: Employers will have access to aggregated rich insights into the areas their workforce is struggling with, whether that’s building healthy habits, being more in control of stress, setting boundaries, or other specialized topics. This can fuel organizational strategy, and HR leaders will be able to measure improvements on an ongoing basis.
Nearly one in three people who have a long-term physical health condition also have a mental health concern—most often depression or anxiety. Furthermore, chronic diseases or risk factors, including high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, physical inactivity, and obesity, cost employers in the U.S. $36.4 billion a year due to employee absenteeism. Additionally, employees with unresolved depression experience a 35% reduction in productivity, contributing to a loss in the U.S. economy of $210.5 billion annually in medical costs, absenteeism, reduced productivity, and requests for extended leaves of absence.
“As HR leaders, we know that how a person is feeling on a human level inevitably affects how they show up at work. This new collection of Pathways empowers HR leaders to take human care to the next level,” comments Maureen Calabrese, Chief People Officer at Modern Health. “We have already seen incredible engagement with Pathways with members across 40 different countries utilizing the modality of care and nearly 100% of users reporting confidence in their ability to incorporate the learning into their work. Modern Health is truly an extension of the world’s top people teams, building a future where workplace well-being is transformed from a lofty goal to a measurable reality.”
The Physical Well-Being Pathways Collection will be available starting March 29, 2024. Modern Health continues to scale Pathways, introducing additional areas of need requiring specialized support. These will be designed and developed by topic-specific clinical experts and research scientists. Each Pathway will provide market-leading specialized support for HR leaders, managers, and employees – all rooted in clinical evidence, supported by dedicated Pathway Specialists, and embedded with powerful organizational insights.
