Davenport to Once Again Offer Free Course to Help Unemployed Land Their Next Job

Davenport University announced today it will once again offer a free career-focused class to individuals who have lost their jobs as a result of the coronavirus. The online course, Communications 120 – Presentation Techniques, will give each participant an opportunity to hone their presentation skills, build their resumes, enhance their LinkedIn profiles and earn three college credits.

“Davenport is proud to once again be able to offer this opportunity,” said Dr. Richard J. Pappas, president of Davenport University. “Helping our fellow Michiganders aligns with our mission as a university to help individuals gain the knowledge and skills that will lead them to a successful career.”

The interdisciplinary course will be offered online and will utilize free digital education resources and presentations from multiple university departments to help students brush up on their skills to quickly reenter the workforce.

“We have found this program to be a great success in the past year,” said Brian Miller, Dean of Global Campus and Academic Systems at Davenport University. “The program teaches valuable communication skills and applies them directly to the unique needs of those in Michigan’s workforce who have been impacted by the pandemic.”

Participants will also get the opportunity to work with Davenport’s Career Services department, which will offer personalized coaching on how to navigate interviews and much more. All participants will receive a grade at the end of the 7-week course. The class will begin on May 10, 2021 and is now accepting applications.

“We just heard from another student who credits this course and opportunity to helping them land a full-time position. If we can help an individual be a highly competitive candidate for a job, that’s what this course is all about,” said Miller.
