The report reveals that despite the rapid growth of the gig and remote working economy, only 48% of businesses perform background checks on their temporary workers, and even fewer screen their independent contractors, interns, and volunteers, despite them potentially having the same access to sensitive information as their permanent workforce.

This data comes at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has driven remote working to unprecedented levels, raising concerns about the security processes in place to protect businesses from the new potential threats of having a large mobile workforce. The findings of the report suggest that rescreening your existing workforce could be a possible solution, with 48% of businesses globally reporting that they benefited from more consistent safety and security as a result of employment screening.
