FlexJobs Report: 10 Fastest-Growing Freelance Jobs in 2024 Released

FlexJobs releases a report with top companies who are hiring freelancers and tips on laderring up as a freelancer.

To help job seekers navigate the fast-changing remote freelance economy and identify future career opportunities, FlexJobs® has released the 10 Fastest-Growing Freelance Jobs in 2024. In today’s work landscape, freelancing is no longer a fringe way of working, but a formidable career path. An estimated 64 million US professionals performed freelance work in 2023, and given the demand for remote work and job flexibility, the trend shows few signs of slowing down.

The career service’s report details the top 10 remote freelance careers that experienced the highest growth rates in the second half of 2023, as well as examples of the most in-demand freelance job titles and top companies hiring for fully remote, freelance workers. To compile the report, FlexJobs analysed more than 60,000 companies across 50 categories in its database and their job posting histories between July 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023.

“The rise in freelancers is a great indication of the many workers pursuing their careers with greater autonomy, independence, and flexibility,” said Toni Frana, Lead Career Expert at FlexJobs. “And fortunately as our latest report has shown, there are remote freelance opportunities across a wide range of industries that afford people the freedom to define when, where, and how they work,” Frana added.

Freelance has been around for a long time and it comes with its own pros and cons. It gives one the freedom to choose whatever career path you want to chart but the trade-off will be the absence of security one might get as an employee of a company.

5 Tips on How to Freelance Find Jobs

  • Perform targeted search

Targeting your search is essential. When focusing on freelance work, you can target different keywords to expand your results. In addition to using “freelance” as a search term, consider using other well-known terms, such as contract work, independent contractor, 1099 worker, and contract consultant. If you’re game to move into an employee role again, contract-to-hire is also an option.

  • Ask for referrals

Refrain from assuming that clients already know a referral is wanted. Many customers will forget or move on, no matter how delighted they are after a project ends. Make it easy for your freelance clients to share testimonials by sending a polite email with a link and a couple of targeted questions they can answer.

  • Get social and get networking

Don’t underestimate the power of social media and a powerful network in finding and landing freelance clients. Get your name out there, interact professionally, and build relationships. While you may not get a freelance client right away, having your name out there means they may come searching for you. And make sure to connect with other freelancers. Building a community for industry tips, information, and connections is essential.

  • Explore job sites

Job boards can be an excellent way to find new clients and remote freelance jobs. Sites like FlexJobs can help you narrow your search in a safe environment while connecting you with potential clients and opportunities.

  • Embrace cold pitching

Cold pitching is emailing or messaging potential freelance clients to offer services. Research companies, customise emails, and do proper due diligence that will help to meet their needs.
