The first code review as a service company, PullRequest, Inc., recently announced the acquisition of Moonlight, a remote developer hiring platform based out of Brooklyn. The co-founders of Moonlight, Emma Lawler and Philip Thomas will serve PullRequest as Head of Design and Head of Growth, respectively.
PullRequest has won several awards as a startup and had raised seed and Series A funding from a group of investors led by Gradient, Google’s artificial intelligence fund, in 2017.

Moonlight was founded in the year 2017 with an objective to help remote developers integrate into firms on the lookout for expert assistance on software development projects. Last year, the company had raised a pre-seed round of financing from investors that included Goldcrest Capital, Fathom Capital, and Haystack Ventures. The Moonlight platforms targets end-to-end development and thus was a perfect fit for PullRequest AI product which has matured from identifying issues inside codebases to fixing those.

The acquisition will also mark a key milestone in PullRequest’s journey as the total number of AI-assisted developers in its network crosses the 10,000 mark. Emma opined that the partnership between the two organizations will make it simpler for Moonlight clients to trust the contributions of contractors, and PullRequest subscribers would be able to write code much faster. The network has paid out more than $1 million to various developers who were hired for short-term contract gigs. The developers were from firms as small as startups to companies as big as Cloudflare.
“We’re excited about the growing opportunity of on-demand code review. Integrating the Moonlight product and team with PullRequest will help shape the future direction of the platform,” said Anna Patterson, a PullRequest board member and MD of Gradient Ventures.
