HR Software Company Trickle Raises £1m in Seed Funding

Edinburgh Business Trickle and Its Staff Feedback Platform Is Backed by Techstart Ventures

  • Send feedback from employees upward to help management ensure they are listened to
  • Already working with West Dunbartonshire Council on people engagement as part of the Scottish Government CivTech program
  • Helps companies of all sizes  attract and retain staff by promoting a positive working culture

An Edinburgh start-up whose HR software helps companies engage with employees has secured £1 million of seed funding.

Trickle was co-founded by entrepreneur Paul Reid, whose previous business Sigma Seven was bought by outsourcing giant Capita in 2015.

Its technology platform ‘trickles’ feedback from employees upward to help management ensure they are listened to and that the workforce remains happy in their jobs. It features an analytics dashboard that highlights the staff’s top five issues or suggestions.

Trickle already has Scottish Power, the Scottish Government, Disclosure Scotland and recruitment group Eden Scott as clients. It is working with West Dunbartonshire Council on people engagement as part of the Scottish Government CivTech program.

Reid is Trickle’s CEO and he has been joined by chief technology officer Ross Dempster and other former members of the Sigma Seven team.

Reid said: “When Sigma Seven was acquired by one of the UK’s largest companies, I saw first-hand how corporate culture can impact people and I was always thinking about how I had to feed or trickle my team’s sentiments back to the new management.

“With Trickle, we’ve built a people-first technology platform so that a conduit exists to channel employee issues and suggestions to senior management and HR. The end result is a virtuous circle that helps people feel more valued within the organizations we’re partnering with.”

Trickle believes it can help companies large and small retain and attract staff by promoting a positive working culture.

Chief operating officer Marcella Peacock said: “Studies show that a happily employed person is more than twice as productive as a satisfied one and more than three times as productive as a dissatisfied person at work. Today’s startups are thinking more about culture than ever before from day one.

“For the more established organizations, they realize that in today’s corporate world, putting real focus on engaging your workforce results in higher productivity, increased loyalty and reduced staff churn.”
