The University of Chicago Booth School of Business Executive Education announces the September 2020 debut of its new program, High-Stakes Decisions: Manage Risk and Reputation (HSD)

HSD a five-week premium live-online program—is designed as a response to COVID-19 in which many leaders found themselves making high-stake decisions amid considerable uncertainty. This program helps leaders move ahead in times of uncertainty by gaining the tools to build a more resilient organization and make strategic risk and leadership decisions to protect their organization’s future.

“There are no innocent bystanders when it comes to risk management. Just because you can’t predict a global pandemic doesn’t mean you can’t be prepared,” says Chicago Booth Professor Randy Kroszner, who created a strategic risk program for senior leaders.

Participants will acquire the tools to identify and anticipate a broad set of risks—not only obvious ones that can be readily controlled but also unforeseen external forces such as pandemics, supply chain disruptions, financial crises, terrorism, and cybersecurity threats.

“There are no innocent bystanders when it comes to risk management. Just because you can’t predict a global pandemic doesn’t mean you can’t be prepared. A framework that breaks down macro vulnerabilities into risk factors you can control allows you to proactively manage the impact of events outside of your control,” says Randall Kroszner, Deputy Dean for Executive Programs and Norman R. Bobins Professor of Economics, Chicago Booth and HSD Faculty Director.

As governor of the Federal Reserve System during the 2008–2009 financial crisis and as a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 2001–2003 where he dealt with the shock of 9/11, Latin American debt and currency crises, and corporate governance scandals, Professor Kroszner will share his expertise and experience in managing crisis. What’s more, participants will also learn from Susan Lucia Annunzio, president and CEO of The Center for High Performance, a strategic advisor to CEOs of leading global companies.

As a live-online program, HSD is delivered in a synchronous format where you’ll learn from faculty, industry leaders, and peers in an interactive, high-impact virtual environment. These programs blend live sessions with off-line activities, projects, and readings to deepen your understanding of the materials. Participants will collaborate with other senior leaders via group projects, after-class hangouts, and a virtual fireside chat. The benefit to this format is that you’ll receive Booth’s rigorous content in short, digestible 90-minute sessions held twice a week. HSD is a high-impact program that provides the Booth approach in a convenient schedule for global executives.
