Sunrise Senior Living Ranked among Best Workplaces in Aging Services by Great Place to Work® and FORTUNE for Second Consecutive Year

Team members highlighted meaningful work and inclusive environment in survey responses

Great Place to Work® and Fortune have ranked Sunrise Senior Living No. 12 on their list of the Best Workplaces in Aging Services among large organizations.* This marks the second consecutive year that Sunrise has been recognized on Great Place to Work’s annual list. The ranking was determined using survey responses from more than 5,000 Sunrise team members in the United States.

“Our valued team members are devoted to the Sunrise mission to champion quality of life for all seniors, and that’s powerfully evident as they work to bring meaningful days to our beloved residents,” said Chris Winkle, chief executive officer for Sunrise. “We remain committed to cultivating and growing our team members within the organization, and are always seeking to strengthen our position as an employer of choice in our industry. This continued recognition from Great Place to Work® is reflective of the compassionate, inclusive, and supportive culture we strive to foster here at Sunrise.”

Great Place to Work, an independent research and consulting firm, evaluated more than 60 elements of senior living employees’ experience on the job. These included employee pride in the organization’s community impact, belief that their work makes a difference, and feeling their work has special meaning. Rankings are based on employees’ experiences, no matter who they are or what they do.

“When we receive letters from our residents’ families, they express a deep appreciation for our team members—the individuals who demonstrate daily their dedication to compassionate high-quality care, driven by the inherent desire to serve,” said Mike Rodis, senior vice president of Human Resources for Sunrise. “Recognition aside, these survey results are another way for us to validate areas of strength and opportunity in our organization, so that we can help maintain a work environment where our people feel valued and fulfilled.”

Survey results cited team members’ pride in their work and in their ability to make a difference. Sunrise also received high marks when it comes to welcoming new employees, creating a safe environment, and treating team members with fairness. Additionally, the majority of survey respondents feel that individuals in their organization are treated fairly regardless of their gender or sexual orientation.

“We applaud Sunrise for seeking certification and releasing its employees’ feedback,” said Dr. Jacquelyn Kung, of Great Place to Work’s senior care affiliate Activated Insights. “These ratings measure its capacity to earn its own employees’ trust and create a great workplace for high performance.”

Sunrise ranks among the leading industry providers for assisted and independent living services, as well as memory care for aging adults. Based on a random selection of team member surveys, ranking scores were tallied according to Great Place to Work’s Trust Index™ employee survey—the global standard for measuring a great workplace—and an assessment of all team members’ daily experiences of innovation and the effectiveness of their leaders to ensure they’re consistently experienced by all groups. All organizations who appear on a Best Workplaces list must first be certified as a Great Place to Work®.
