Edmentum Launches First-Ever AI Integration

Edmentum, a global education leader and pioneer in online teaching and learning solutions, launched a new virtual advisor, Edmentum Online Navigator (EON), for its award-winning Study Island program. The new feature represents the first time the company has implemented artificial intelligence (AI) into one of its programs.

EON utilizes cutting-edge AI and machine-learning technology that allows educators to spend more time teaching and less time onboarding. By answering a few simple questions, the virtual advisor helps educators complete their profiles and create their first classes and assignments in Study Island, all in about three minutes. EON also helps educators explore the full breadth of functionality in the program, provides personalized feature recommendations based on what has been successful for other teachers, and runs reports on students’ progress.

“Our goal is to delight educators by streamlining the process of setting up their students and classes in Study Island so that they can quickly get to the task of teaching,” said Edmentum Chief Product Officer Cheryl Dodge. “EON will save teachers planning time and help them make data-informed instructional decisions. We’re excited for educators to experience it, and we’ve already begun making plans to extend EON’s functionality into more Edmentum programs in the future.”

By empowering educators to make the most of their time in Study Island, EON will help drive more meaningful practice, effective formative assessment, and individualized instruction for students.

“This exciting new technology is built from the ground up,” said Edmentum Chief Data Scientist Ben Post. “The power that drives Edmentum’s state-of-the-art AI is its ability to learn and adapt as educators engage. This debut release of EON focuses on saving teachers time and improving educator efficiency, but that’s only the first step. Over time, EON will evolve to provide both educators and students with a virtual advisor that can anticipate their needs and respond with personalized recommendations, solutions, and even instructional support to enhance overall teaching practices and learning outcomes.”

Launched 20 years ago, Study Island is used by over 150,000 educators across the country, and it continues to evolve based on educator feedback and education best practices. In addition to EON, the program will receive other enhancements this summer, including new benchmark assessments and reporting and content that reflects the latest state guidelines and standards.
