Coursera Launches Leadership Academy for World Class Management Training

Coursera aims to build the next generation leaders and high-performance teams with its ‘Leadership Academy’ on its Coursera for Business platform. Amidst the swiftly transforming workplace with remote work and back-to-office transitions, this academy will offer content taught by some of the top instructors from the leading universities and companies. Coursera’s portfolio of Academies already includes a variety from the Cloud and IT Academy, Marketing Academy, Finance Academy, Data and Analytics Academy, to the Software Engineering Academy. Added to these will be the Leadership Academy which will feature 42 SkillSets (an innovation that helps build specific skills as needed for specific job roles) ranging from Interpersonal Skills, Emotional Intelligence, Organizational Development and Change Management.

The Leadership Academy will teach employees several leadership roles by learning to-

  • Lead Self: by forming the foundational understanding of change, management and human skills
  • Lead Teams: building team leadership capabilities by enhancing people development, change recognition and collaboration skills
  • Lead Organizations: empowering leaders in the growth of people and profits 
  • Lead Transformation: developing workforce capabilities in employees towards adapting, innovating and transforming the business

The 350 job-based content recommendations will include courses like-

  1. How to Manage a Remote Team by Jessica Reeder and Darren Murph, Gitlab Inc.
  2. Communication Strategies for a Virtual Age by  Ivan Wanis Ruiz, University of Toronto
  3. High Performance Collaboration – Leadership, Teamwork & Negotiation by Prof. Leigh Thompson, Kellogg School of Management

The Leadership Academy will be available to all users of the platform, Coursera for Business, which currently delivers role-based skill development with hands-on learning, benchmarking, and analytics to over 2,000 companies globally. 

The Enterprise cloud data management company Informatica, was among the first ones who embraced the Leadership Academy. The Director of Leadership and Professional Development, Informatica, Matt Dearmon explained that with the dynamic changes, leaders at each level in the organizations need to be supported with targeted and reliable skills. He added, “An important part of leadership development is the realization that there are component skills that can be learned and mastered.” The Academy will help deliver scalable yet personalized leadership training to the learner.
