Riverstreamz Takes Leadership Role in Returnship Employee Placements

Bloomberg looked to Riverstreamz CEO to share his expertise in a recent article that featured a Riverstreamz retiree placement

Los Angeles-based Riverstreamz, a leading data and systems technology firm providing staffing resources for specialty, high tech positions, was recently featured in a Bloomberg Businessweek article discussing the new trend of Returnships. This new term is corporate-speak for flexible arrangements for veteran employees. Riverstreamz has been actively assisting older individuals return to work in part-time or temporary positions which fulfills their desire to work when they want and at the same time solves a critical staffing need for their clients.

The article is written by the Future of Work reporter, Arianne Cohen, who debuted another popular term in her May 2021 article when her interview subject, Organizational psychologist Anthony Klotz, talked about The Great Resignation. This June 2022 article features Riverstreamz placement, 65-year-old Chris Emhardt, who loves that he can just do what is asked of him and head home at the end of the day. “The difference is I’m not trying to build or advance my career,” notes Emhardt. “I don’t mind going 110% for a month, but I wouldn’t want to do that as a full-time job.”

The article notes, “Emhardt is emblematic of a wave of sixty- and seventy-somethings who are thriving in part-time, contract, and project work. Many are among the 3 million-plus Americans who retired early during the pandemic but are opting for ‘returnships,’ corporate-speak for flexible arrangements for veteran employees.”

Sources in the story have seen that, “…demand for seasoned, interim leaders has more than doubled in the past year” and others have seen, “…flexible arrangements for retirement-age workers triple since before the pandemic. Growing numbers of companies are offering returnees shorter hours and schedules to accommodate vacation travel, along with remote and hybrid work arrangements that wouldn’t have been accepted a few years ago.”

There’s an issue of this phenomenon being bad for full time job seekers, but the article continues citing Riverstreamz CEO, “Sootkoos feels the benefits outweigh the downsides and advises older employees to consider project work; he’s had numerous candidates who were turned down for full-time jobs but successfully hired on contract.”
