Ultimate Software, a leading global provider of human capital management (HCM) and employee experience solutions in the cloud, announced that three organizations—PSEB Group, Genesco Inc., and MUY! Companies—are using Ultimate’s UltiPro platform to address the cultural and logistical challenges of managing large, geographically dispersed employee populations.
PSEB is a shared services firm that is responsible for managing the 14,000 employees working at the company’s Eddie Bauer and PACSUN retail brands in the United States and Canada, as well as a sourcing entity in Hong Kong. The company sought to unify global processes, eliminate paper, and make payroll less time consuming. PSEB launched UltiPro in April 2018 for its Eddie Bauer brand, and building upon that successful deployment, launched UltiPro for PACSUN in January 2019 in just 16 weeks.

“After a rapid launch, we were able to take advantage of one of the greatest things about UltiPro—everyone is working in the same environment,” said Misty Nahoopii, director for total rewards at PSEB. “As a result, our Eddie Bauer and PACSUN managers can partner with each other. Workflow is the same. And because all our businesses rely on the same solution, we feel like one company.”
UltiPro’s ability to unify a company’s culture has also been essential for the success of Genesco, a Nashville-based specialty retailer that sells footwear and accessories under recognizable brand names such as Journeys and Johnston & Murphy.
Genesco operates more than 2,800 retail stores and leased departments throughout the United States and Canada. The company launched UltiPro in July 2011, and now manages 26,000 employees through the solution.
“Our brands’ cultures are quite different, but through the UltiPro platform, all our companies come together to create processes that put our employees first,” said Cindy Dempsey, director of total rewards at Genesco. “Within HR Shared Services, we are leveraging UltiPro to strengthen collaboration and cooperation around the employee experience, and create processes that work for everyone. Leaders from every division are coming to us with ideas and then looking for us to recommend best practices.”

UltiPro’s employee-centric functionality and usability was a key factor in the selection of the solution by MUY! Companies, one of the largest private restaurant employers in the United States, with over 20,000 employees. The company went live with UltiPro in September 2016, and deployed the solution for the company’s Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Wendy’s franchise restaurants, which each roll up into their own corporate entities. MUY!’s stores are spread across 19 U.S. states.
“UltiPro helps us manage the transactional side of such a large enterprise, such as staying compliant with each state’s tax laws, while also helping us build stronger overall performance in a sequential, step-by-step process that doesn’t overwhelm local operators,” said Grant Stewart, chief people officer at MUY! Companies. “UltiPro gives us the flexibility to follow a roadmap that works for our business and our employees, launching functionality at a pace that drives value and makes our employees happier.”
“UltiPro’s ability to drive a high-performance culture is a function of its superior HR technology and simple, intuitive design that can be deployed successfully across the country and around the world,” said Greg Swick, chief enterprise sales officer at Ultimate. “We are pleased that companies with tens of thousands of employees are using our HR software to focus on employee needs, while at the same time wrapping HR best practices around our applications.”
