theEMPLOYEEapp, a mobile-first employee communications and engagement solution for frontline workers, announced that its customized mobile app served as a “lifeline” for employees of United Health Services (UHS) based in greater Broome County of New York. UHS deployed theEMPLOYEEapp across its workforce in late 2019 with the goal of keeping everyone, including their remote and deskless healthcare workers, informed and engaged. Less than a year after installing the customized, secure app, UHS found its communications strategy undergoing the ultimate test as the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the United States–and through their own community.

Within days of COVID-19 impacting Broome County and the wider state of New York, UHS relied on a branded version of theEMPLOYEEapp, called UHS Connections, to share important safety information and policy updates with healthcare workers. UHS also uses the app to stay connected with employees that have been furloughed or are staying home due to risks.
“As a healthcare organization, we suddenly found ourselves on the front lines of a global pandemic. theEMPLOYEEapp became our lifeline to the employees who were home and here working every day,” said Steven Perlin, manager of internal and external communications at United Health Service. “We have had more and more people sign up and tell us how happy they were to be able to get these updates right on their phone. In this time of extreme uncertainty, we were able to bring information right to the people who needed it, which wouldn’t have been possible without theEMPLOYEEapp.”
