Learn@Forbes and Fullstack Academy Announce Scholarships to Televerde

Program provides incarcerated women a second chance at success through access to education and training, leading to meaningful opportunities as they re-enter their communities

Zovio, an education technology services company, announced that Learn@Forbes and Fullstack Academy, which are part of the Zovio network, will provide 30 scholarships to incarcerated women engaged by Televerde. Through their partnership with the State of Arizona, Televerde provides these women with the professional skills and resources they need to successfully re-enter society as leaders, caregivers, innovators and business professionals.

“Televerde’s program stood out to Learn Forbes and Fullstack Academy because of the success its had empowering incarcerated women over the past 25 years. The program proves that when people are given tools, resources and opportunity, they can succeed, regardless of their background or circumstance,” said Jennifer Love Bruce, vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility for Zovio.

Learn@Forbes offers online courses, specializations and micro-certifications in business, human resources, marketing, personal development, technology, plus leadership, and will provide 20 scholarships.

“Learning should be about creating positive outcomes and helping learners,” said Anurag Malik, CEO of Learn@Forbes. “Providing the women of Televerde with additional education opportunities will help them re-enter their communities, reunite with their families and build meaningful and rewarding futures.”

Fullstack Academy, which is an award-winning bootcamp, is known for the Grace Hopper Program, whose mission is to close the gender gap in engineering jobs and provide accessible education for women with no upfront tuition cost. They are donating 10 scholarships to Introduction to Coding.

“Our students come from diverse backgrounds and never cease to inspire us. We’re excited to partner with the women of Televerde to build their professional skills and networks and empower them to transform their careers,” says David Yang, co-CEO and co-founder of Fullstack Academy.

The scholarships will benefit incarcerated women at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Perryville who are active participants in the Televerde prison to workforce development program. Since 1994, Televerde has been investing in incarcerated women to give them a fair chance to better their lives.

The women are trained in business acumen and sales and marketing, and are certified in the most current technologies on the market. This level of knowledge and on-the-job experience enables them to secure highly competitive career positions upon release. In fact, seven of Televerde’s 10 engagement centers are staffed by incarcerated women, representing 70 percent of the company’s 600+ global workforce.

“Televerde is committed to providing disempowered communities with opportunities to learn, grow and acquire in-demand business and technology skills so they can achieve their highest potential, build professional careers, and transform their lives,” said Morag Lucey, CEO of Televerde. “We are grateful to the Zovio network for investing in our women so they can improve their socio-economic conditions after release.”
