Among the latest additions to the catalog is a three-part series on interviewing presented by Virtual Vocations’ Career Services Division Manager Holly Leyva and certified resume writer and career coach Paige Judnich, who share their tips for all stages of the interview process, including how to prepare for a virtual interview and what to expect from hiring managers.

“The interview is one of the most important steps in every job search,” says Leyva. “Interviews give the employer a chance to learn more about you and why you’re the right person for the job, but they also provide an opportunity for you to gain important information about the role, the company, culture, and fit.”

The first coaching session of the series breaks down the basics of interviewing and helps paint a picture for jobseekers of what to expect throughout the process, including by:

  • Explaining the differences between various types of job interviews and when each may be used by the hiring team;
  • Walking jobseekers through the process of moving through an interview successfully; and
  • Providing an overview of interview facts, figures, and concepts that all professionals who are looking for work should know and understand.

After getting a solid grasp on the interview process, jobseekers can move into the second of three coaching sessions, which hones in on steps to take before and during an interview to ensure success. This session covers:

  • Common questions HR managers and recruiters may pose to candidates in an interview setting;
  • How jobseekers can formulate clear, memorable responses that demonstrate to hiring companies they’re the right fit for the role; and
  • Tips for rehearsing answers ahead of time to ensure they sound natural and minimize pre-interview jitters.

“Learning to interview well is a key skill every jobseeker should develop to increase their chances of advancing in the hiring process,” Leyva says. “Be prepared to spend time practicing and improving your interview skills. Mastery doesn’t happen overnight.”

The third and final group coaching session of the series encourages jobseekers to apply what they’ve learned with an easy-to-follow checklist designed to help them prepare themselves—and their workspaces—for the big day, including tips for staging your interview space appropriately and professionally.

“With online job interviews increasing almost 50% over the last 10 years and quickly becoming the new normal, it’s imperative that you’re able to interview well virtually,” says Leyva.

Her top tip for jobseekers gearing up for a virtual interview? “Know who you are professionally and be prepared to share the unique value you bring, as well as several examples that demonstrate that value,” Leyva advises.

“Be sure you understand the technology being used and how to present yourself well on video,” she adds, “and make sure your surroundings are professional and support your personal brand to ensure a successful interview.”

The three-part interviewing series full of more expert tips like these is available to jobseekers who have a paid, premium membership with Virtual Vocations as part of the company’s Remote Career Center, where members can access dozens of exclusive resources created to help jobseekers find fulfilling, flexible work from home.
